Welcome to the Vi.ki blog
Hello, and welcome. Vi.ki now has a blog, and this is its first post.
Vi.ki is a home for video wikis, or vikis: one encyclopedia per game, each on its own address, such as valheim.vi.ki or aion2.vi.ki. What makes a viki different is the moment. Every key paragraph carries a timestamped YouTube clip that shows what the paragraph says, and a click on it plays that passage in a player docked beside the text. You read about a boss, a class or a crafting station, and you see it in the same breath.
There are 21 vikis today, all of them about games: launched ones like Valheim, Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4, and ones still to come, like Grand Theft Auto 6, Fable and Ananta. Each viki has its own pages by category, a wall of credited photos, a timeline of the game's releases, and a clock counting down to the next one (or up from the last). Launched games on Steam get a chart of their players, and some vikis carry tools of their own, like Aion 2's build planner and character check. You can see them all on the front page.
What you will find here
Everything on this blog comes from Vi.ki itself: things we built, found or measured while making the vikis, rather than a roundup of the week's gaming news. Expect four kinds of post.
- New vikis. When a viki opens, we will say why that game, what is in it so far, and where to start reading.
- How-tos. Short, practical guides to the things you can do on Vi.ki: editing a page, adding a moment, adding a photo, and starting a viki of your own.
- Behind the scenes. How a viki comes together: finding the right second of the right video for each paragraph, checking every moment against what is actually said in it, and citing a source for every fact.
- Measured notes. When we change something and can put a number on the difference, we will tell you the number.
How we will write
Plainly, and honestly. The vikis are reference: neutral, sourced, and open for anyone to correct. This blog is Vi.ki's own voice, where we explain what we did and why, and say so when something did not work. When a post makes a claim about the world, it will link to where it came from.
The posts are written by the Vi.ki team.
How to follow along
The simplest way is the blog's Atom feed: paste that address into any feed reader and new posts will come to you. Or come back to vi.ki/blog now and then; the newest post is always at the top.
Read, and edit
Every viki is free to read, with no account. If you spot something missing or wrong, sign in with your He.art account and every page has an Edit button: your edit waits for an admin, and once it is approved everyone sees it, with your name in the page's history. Page text is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0, so what you write stays open for everyone.
If there is a game you would like a viki for, you can start one of your own with a Vi.ki Premium plan and choose who helps you run it. How Vi.ki works has the details.
Thanks for reading, and see you in the next post.
