Privacy

This is what Vi.ki stores, and when.

Reading

Vi.ki stores nothing about a visitor who only reads, and sets no advertising cookies. Vi.ki and every viki use Google Analytics, a service of Google LLC, to count visits: through cookies it collects the pages you visit, your approximate location, your device and browser, and the page that sent you here. Google explains how it uses that information in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Vi.ki and every viki also use Microsoft Clarity, a service of Microsoft, on their public pages: heatmaps and session recordings that show how pages are used, such as where readers click and how far they scroll. Anything typed is masked, and so is your name in the account menu. Microsoft explains how it handles that information in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Signing in

You sign in with your He.art account, at accounts.he.art, with a Google account of your choosing. Signing in gives Vi.ki that account's Google id, your email address, your name and your profile picture, passed once through a signed link that expires after sixty seconds. They are stored so that your edits and photos can be attributed to you and shown to you. While you are signed in, each page you read is counted with your email address by Stats.he.art, our own visitor counter, where only the site’s administrators can see it.

Editing

Every revision you submit is kept with your name, for as long as the page exists, under the license above. Your edits, in Studio, lists what became of each one.

Paying for a plan

If you buy a plan, Stripe takes your payment through Heart Photos, which runs billing for Vi.ki. Vi.ki tells them your Google account id and your email address, so the receipt reaches you and the plan stays yours; your card details go to Stripe alone and never reach Vi.ki. Vi.ki asks Heart Photos which plan you are on, when it renews or ends, and whether you have had the free days, and keeps no other record of your payments. Stripe's handling of them is set out in the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Cookies

A session cookie keeps you signed in for thirty days across every viki. A token cookie protects forms. A short-lived cookie protects the he.art handoff. Your theme choice and the photo viewer’s layout stay in your browser. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (named _ga) to tell one visit from the next, and Microsoft Clarity sets its own (named _clck and _clsk).

Visitors in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked first: neither Google Analytics nor Microsoft Clarity loads for them until they choose Accept. Anyone, wherever they are, can change their choice with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page; Decline turns both off. The choice is kept for twelve months in a cookie named analytics_consent, shared by every viki.

YouTube

No YouTube code loads until you play a moment. From then on the player is subject to YouTube’s Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
