Vi.ki (Video wikis)

What is a video wiki?

Video wikis are YouTube + Wikipedia, where you can see the paragraph you are reading by clicking the moment being described in the text.

Wikis are traditionally walls of text with a few images thrown in, and maybe an embedded video floating somewhere that is not connected to the text.

The biggest challenge and most time-consuming part of writing a good video wiki is finding those appropriate moments as timestamps on relevant YouTube videos!

How a viki works

  1. A viki is a wiki about one thing. Each lives on its own address, with pages by category, a photo wall, and a history of every change.
  2. Every key paragraph has a moment. A moment is a timestamped clip from a YouTube video. Click it and the video plays that passage beside the paragraph, so a claim comes with the footage that shows it.
  3. Anyone can edit; an admin approves. Sign in with your He.art account, change a page or add a photo, and your edit goes live once an admin has read it. Every approved revision is kept under the name of the person who made it.
